Hide AdLittlewood, aged 52, pleaded guilty to failing to provide veterinary attention for a dog at Sheffield Magistrates' Court.
RSPCA inspector Damien Wooliscroft said: "Mitch was in a shocking state when we found him. He couldn't stand, and his eyes were oozing. He was an old dog, but he needed veterinary attention, and he didn't need to suffer like this."
Littlewood was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay 250 costs.
Mr Wooliscroft said: "The court recognised that this shouldn't be allowed to happen again, and have sentenced Mr Littlewood accordingly. From my point of view, that's the very best the RSPCA hopes for."
