Joost van Aken, at VfL Osnabrück, and St. Pauli’s Matt Penney got back underway this month as teams in both the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga started up again behind closed doors, but it’s been a hot and cold start for the Wednesday loanees.
Van Aken, 26, started both games as Osnabrück drew 1-1 with league leaders, Arminia Bielefeld, before a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Hannover 96, but was then left out of the squad completely on Tuesday night as they managed to pick up a 2-0 win away at Greuther Fürth.

Meanwhile, Penney (22) played his 13th game of the season as he started in the 1-0 win v Nürnberg but was an unused substitute at Darmstadt 98 and will be hoping to get another runout for Jos Luhukay’s side this evening against Heidenheim.
While as things stand, Van Aken is set to return to Hillsborough when his loan expires to see out the one year left on his SWFC deal, Penney could be set for a move away if a new contract isn’t agreed before the end of June.
