And with a whole raft of their players out of contract at the end of the season, whatever division they’re in it’s likely to be a hive of activity once again as Darren Moore looks to rebuild a squad that has under-performed in recent seasons.
With Brexit immigration rules limiting the opportunity clubs have to bring in players from abroad, the focus on domestic players will be even greater.

Jordan Rhodes
In and out of the side in recent weeks, it’s looking more and more likely that Jordan Rhodes will be heading for the Hillsborough exit door unless something changes.
The 31-year-old has had a frustrating time at S6 since his club record move in 2017 and it is felt that a clean break might be good for both parties.
He indicated earlier this year that he would be open to staying on at Wednesday but with playing opportunities increasingly limited, there is no indication that a contract extension would be fotthcoming.

It was confirmed by Tony Pulis in December that Wednesday had offered contract deals to Reach, Tom Lees and Barry Bannan, who has since signed a two-year deal.
The winger-slash-utility man has been moved around in position in recent months and despite some hugely hard-working performances seems to have struggled to settle this season.
Darren Moore said all players are working from a clean slate. The progression of Reach’s contract talks are unknown.

Kadeem Harris
Another whose contract is up soon is winger Kadeem Harris, who has been at Wednesday for two years since signing for a free transfer in the summer of 2019.

Linked with: Middlesbrough, Stoke City, Watford, Reading
Osaze Urhoghide
Another player Wednesday want to get tied up is youngster Osaze Urhoghide, particularly in light of the Liam Shaw debacle.
A contract offer has been tabled, The Star revealed earlier this month, but is yet to be signed with Urhoghide said to be keen to concentrate on his football.
Urhoghide has Dutch citizenship, meaning he would have absolutely no problems obtaining a visa to work in Europe.

Matt Penney
Another who has been in and out of the Owls side has been Matt Penney. A very good age at just 23, his Championship credentials aren’t quite proven yet, though he has been on the fringes of first team football – with Wednesday and German second tier outfit St Pauli – for a while.
He’s one that needs to kick on and it will be interesting to see whether that ends up being with the Owls or elsewhere.
Linked with: Swindon Town
Who else is up?
Tom Lees is the obvious one Wednesday would want to seal a deal for, but there’s also Keiren Westwood, Elias Kachunga, Moses Odubajo, Joey Pelupessy and Joost van Aken.
