It was reported last month that the German, who left Vissel Kobe in 2020 after winning two trophies with Andres Iniesta and co. was interested in the vacant Owls job, with Dejphon Chansiri looking to make his latest appointment at Hillsborough.
The Star also explained that he had turned down the job at Schalke in Germany as he sought a move to England, but he’s a wanted man at present, with interest ramping up elsewhere around the globe.

Hide AdIt is understood that the 53-year-old former Bayern Munich man did apply for the position, but, with a number of other clubs believed to be keen on bringing him on board, it doesn’t appear that he’s short of options.
Clubs in Turkey, Belgium and the United States of America are said to be interested, with at least one team in the Turkey believed to have tabled an offer. Meanwhile, he’s turned down approaches from the Middle East as he eyes a return to European management.
With that in mind, it remains to be seen if Fink takes up another job before things progress any further with the Owls as the UEFA Champions League-winner seeks his return to management in the coming weeks.
Paul Cook remains the bookies’ favourite at this stage, with Chris Coleman and Roy Keane just behind him – current interim manager, Neil Thompson, is now up there as well.
