The news comes at the beginning of the international break, allowing Chairman Dejphon Chansiri a little time to have a new man in in time for their next match against Preston a week on Saturday. But who will be the next boss? Here’s a look at some of the possible contenders, with a couple of left field names thrown in for good measure.
1. Lee Johnson
Lee Johnson is an experienced Championship manager and did well at Bristol City but just failed to make that step up having come close on a number of occasions before his departure in July. Knows the area well after a very good spell at Barnsley, too. He tol the Tikmes in August: "I definitely wouldn’t rule a foreign club out. My heart is in coaching in the Championship or as high as I can in England." Photo: Harry Trump
2. Ryan Lowe
Has forged a very good reputation for himself as a manager at Bury and now at Plymouth and is a former Wednesday player. He told The Star earlier this year: “I'd like to think one day I could manage the football club.” Photo: Dan Mullan
3. Paul Cook
Worked miracles everywhere he has been and having been out of work since leaving Wigan will be itching to get back in. Another who has worked nearby having been at Chesterfield. WOuld be a popular choice among the Owls fans. Maybe not with Josh Windass. Photo: Nathan Stirk
4. Nigel Pearson
The people's choice. Former captain, the last man to skipper the club to a major trophy and an impressive manager too. However, he's said a few times in the past that he's very much in the 'don't poo in your own nest' camp, wth the former Derby, Leicester and Watford boss still residing in Sheffield. Interstingly did a few interviews last week after a break from the which is often an indication that a manager is ready for a comeback. Photo: RICHARD HEATHCOTE
