The Star understands that, at the time of writing, the club are yet to receive the written reasoning from the independent panel that handed them the points deduction ahead of the 2020/21 season, and it therefore still remains unknown as to whether an appeal will be put in.
Both the club and the English Football League have 14 days after receiving the reasoning to submit their appeals, but both parties will have no go through the ruling extensively before coming to their decisions on whether to do so or not.

Hide AdDespite the points deduction, SWFC and their legal team are understood to have won two of their battles in the fact that charges against chairman, Dejphon Chansiri (who remains out of the country due to travel restrictions), along with the finance director, John Redgate, and former chief executive, Katrien Meire, were all dropped – while the club was also cleared of ‘breaching its duty of utmost good faith to the EFL by deliberately concealing information’.
Though a 12-point deduction is by no means lenient, losing either of the other two battles could’ve led to an even worse position, possibly immediate relegation or even expulsion from the league.
A statement from the Owls on Friday evening explained, “The club welcomes the decision that the commission cleared Sheffield Wednesday of the charge of acting in bad faith in its dealings with the EFL. Further, the commission decided not to apply a 12-point deduction this season, thereby imposing relegation.
“The club will await the written reasons for the sanction and upon receipt will digest and consider the full detail with its legal advisers before making any further comment.”
