A deficit that looked somehow impossible just a couple of weeks ago has been cut to three and a fan base falling into the arms of doubt are believers once again. An Ike Ugbo double was the difference in a hard-fought win that featured a number of bright performances.
If this trio of matches in the next 10 days proves to be the king-maker in Wednesday's bid to stay in the division, it's the first hurdle skipped over.
Here are our ratings from a battle against Bristol City.
1. James Beadle - 6
Dealt well with some dangerous high balls in key moments and showed experience beyond his years in slowing the game down. Distribution mixed.
2. Liam Palmer - 7
An solid, assured performance. Grabbed an assist for picking out Ugbo and dovetailed nicely with Valentin.
3. Michael Ihiekwe - 7
Did the simple things well. Won more headers than anyone else on the pitch. His is a true comeback story.
4. Di’Shon Bernard - 6
Used his athleticism to good effect. A big bully at times. Yellow carded having switched off and paid the price, sent off with 12 minutes to go. He'll now miss the trip to Rotherham United.
