The 18-year-old midfielder was the only Wednesday winner in this year’s edition of the EFL Awards, picking up a gong that has previously been won by the likes of Jude Bellingham, Ryan Sessegnon and Ademola Lookman to name but a few.
He’s not the first Wednesday player to win it – Mark Beevers was recognised for his efforts back in 2007/08 – but he’s the first in over a decade after Alex Hunt was pipped to the post by Sessegnon in 2007/08.

For Trueman, his development on the pitch has been coupled with outreach work such as handing out food hampers over Christmas and being on track to achieve the highest grades possible in his BTEC Extended Diploma.
Speaking to the club after being handed his award, the talented teenager spoke of his pride, and touched on a couple of the big name winners that have gone before him – like Bellingham.
He explained, “I wasn’t expecting it really, but it’s really good and I’m very happy to have won it.

Trueman, who scored for the U18s again over the weekend, went on to say, “It’s great to win this award, I’m really happy… I was glad to be nominated by the club, but for the judging panel to have chosen me as the winner is brilliant.
“All my family are really proud, as soon as I was told I rang my mum and she was buzzing.
“The education side is really important for me, it helps you focus on your football as well, when you know you’ve done a good job with your studies.”
