REVEALED: The latest bright young attacker handed trial by Sheffield Wednesday

Former Notts County attacker Kieran Cummings, 18, played for the Owls’ under-23 side in their 1-0 defeat to Millwall yesterday.
The pacey wide man is the latest bright young thing to benefit from the club’s ‘door ajar’ policy, which has seen a swathe of out-of-contract young players handed opportunities to train with the club. He lined up alongside former Bolton Wanderers trialist De’Marlio Brown-Sterling, who is into his second week with the club.

Cummings, who left National League Notts County during lockdown as they adjusted their financial commitments, trialled at Brentford earlier this season and between trial stints is playing for Nottingham-based United Counties League Division One Bourne Town, where co-manager and former football league pro Nathan Arnold has commended his hunger and attitude.
A number of Wednesday’s contracted younger players have trained and featured in Wednesday’s first team this season, leaving gaping holes in Lee Bullen’s under-23 ranks.
The likes of Marley Blair (ex-Liverpool and Burnley), Colin Odutayo (ex-Aston Villa), Okera Simmonds (ex-Liverpool and Blackburn) and Giovani McGregor (ex-Crystal Palace) have trialled with Wednesday in recent weeks and have been passed up on.

Speaking on the difficulties facing trialists, under-23 boss Bullen told The Star last month: “It’s very difficult for any trialist nowadays.
“With the club and their finances, we’ve got to be careful who we bring in.”
