"He was fantastic and deserved more than what he got," boss Garry Monk told The Star.
It was Dawson's 11th appearance in the Championship and the first time he has tasted defeat in the league.
But he could do little about Stoke's three goals as Wednesday suffered their first defeat in seven matches.

"We are not going to go overboard. We have to be honest with each other and deal with this setback.
"We have got a good group and I expect to see a reaction from the team. We have done it before and we need to show a reaction again."
The Owls entertain 11th-placed Cardiff City on Sunday aiming to extend their unbeaten home run to nine matches.

"We need to show that fight and will to win."
