The Owls will get back to work on June 28th as they prepare to head out to Wales for a preseason camp, with a friendly against Celtic on the horizon on July 7th – currently their only confirmed preseason fixture as things stand.
Moore has stated previously that there are hopes to bring in some new faces by the time the team return to Middlewood Road, however issues surrounding player wages, as well as a reported transfer embargo, have proven to be a stumbling block for the recruitment team as they try to plan for the 2021/22 campaign.
Wednesday currently have 23 players listed on their first team page at present, however that includes a host of youngsters (some of whom are yet to sign new contracts), as well as Osaze Urhoghide - who recently rejected the club’s latest contract offer - and Julian Börner who looks set to leave for Germany.
We took a look at the players currently at Moore’s disposal, and tried to pick his best XI when put into his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.
1. GK - Joe Wildsmith
It could well end up being a toss-up between Wildsmith and Cameron Dawson, who is expected to be fit again, but Wildsmith may well have the advantage given that he was the goalkeeper who ended last season in goal. Preseason will probably determine which one is deemed number one. Photo: Robbie Jay Barratt - AMA
2. RB - Dominic Iorfa
While right-back is probably not Iorfa's best position, and he's better used as a centre back, Wednesday aren't exactly flush for full backs at present. They do, however, have a couple of centre backs and Iorfa's pace does make him a handy option on the right side if needs be. Photo: Steve Ellis
3. CB - Sam Hutchinson
A bit of a no-brainer, really... Didn't do much wrong following his return to Wednesday for the second half of the season, and has consistently shown his commitment to the cause. Could be a really good player for the Owls in League One. Photo: Steve Ellis.
4. CB - Chey Dunkley
Dunkley will be hoping for a big season in 2021/22 after a tough debut campaign at Wednesday that was blighted by injury and ended in relegation. He's vocal and has goals in him, so could be a key player in League One. Julian Börner is currently an option, but looks set to leave in favour of a return to Germany with Hannover 96.
