A number of players left the club following their relegation to League One, and the pressure is on the Owls' recruitment team to find the right signings to see them bounce back from a difficult chapter in the history of the club.
For a bit of fun, we loaded up the latest version of the highly-popular management game Football Manager, and simulated the game three months into the future to see who makes Sheffield Wednesday' s starting XI and bench on the first day of next season.
Here's a look at the current players and new signings who make up Darren Moore's new look-side, in an opening day of the season away clash against his former club Doncaster Rovers:
1. GK: Jamal Blackman
The long-suffering Chelsea 'loan army' member finally left the club, and was snapped up by the Owls on a free transfer. He grabs the number one shirt, following a season on loan with Rotherham United. Photo: Justin Setterfield
2. RB: Liam Palmer
Palmer keeps his spot at right-back, as he heads into his 12th season on the books at Wednesday. FM rates his value at a not-too-shabby £3m, and gives him fine ratings for stamina and bravery. Photo: George Wood
3. CB: Osaze Urhoghide
Plot twist: FM predicts Urhogide will eventually sign a new deal! He's now the main man at the back for the Owls, and he gets a start against Doncaster Rovers. Photo: Alex Livesey
4. CB: Dominic Iorfa
Sunderland came in with a very attractive offer for the 25-year-old, but the Owls stood firm and managed to keep hold of the key player. Interestingly, FM tips him to pledge his allegiance to Nigeria, and break into their senior set-up. Photo: Andrew Yates
