Pep Guardiola’s side advanced to the quarter-finals with a narrow win with Sergio Aguero scoring the only goal of the game on 53 minutes.
“We were all up for it tonight and we owed ourselves and the fans a performance due to the recent form we have been in, especially at home the manner which we have been losing,” Palmer said.

“It is difficult to impose your game on them, it is a lot of communication and we stuck to our game plan.
“Towards the end in the last 10 minutes we had a bit more of a go and threw caution to the wind and they got a bit nervous and started kicking the ball out for corners but we could not quite capitalise.
“It was a spirited performance from the boys and 1-0 is no disgrace.”

City’s line-up included the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Rihad Mahrez and Aguero.
The visitors hit the bar twice but substitute Steven Fletcher almost forced extra-time but could not turn in Alex Hunt’s cross.
Palmer said: “We gave a good account of ourselves but we did not quite get there.”
