Hammer blow for Sheffield Wednesday ahead of huge double header - Massimo Luongo set to miss out

The Owls are dealing with a bit of an injury crisis at present, and Joost van Aken’s red card in the 1-0 defeat to Luton Town means that they’re especially short at the back with Aden Flint and Julian Börner the only fit senior centre backs at the club.
Wednesday have Dominic Iorfa and Tom Lees on the mend and nearing a return to action, apparently, while Liam Shaw may still be a way off, and it remains to be seen how far Osaze Urhoghide and Chey Dunkley are from being available for first team selection.

Hide AdWith Van Aken’s suspension leaving Wednesday short at the back – Liam Palmer may be called upon as a right-sided centre half – Monk is hopeful that Iorfa and Lees, as well as potentially Izzy Brown, could be back in contention to face Rotherham on Wednesday night and then Wycombe Wanderers not long after.
When asked about their potential return against the Millers, Monk told the media, “Hopefully… We’ll come back in tomorrow (Sunday), but as I’ve told you, they’re back out on the pitches and training. We’ll have a good look at them and see where they’re at fitness-wise.”
Meanwhile, on Luongo specifically, he admitted that Rotherham and Wycombe are probably too soon for him, saying, “I think he’ll be doubtful for this week. It’s not only the swelling and it not going down, but having not trained over that period - not that he’ll lose massive fitness. I don’t see him involved this week.
“We need everyone, especially those who have been performing like Massimo.”
