Basham, who moved to South Yorkshire eight years ago, has watched Ahmedhodzic produce a series of impressive displays ahead of the meeting with Nathan Jones’ side with his strength at both ends of the pitch helping United climb to the top of the Championship table.
A two time promotion winner at the club and a vital member of the team which finished ninth in the Premier League under Heckingbottom’s predecessor Chris Wilder, Basham said: “Anel is the biggest competition I’ve had since coming in, and that’s no disrespect to anyone else.

Despite that confidence in his own ability and importance to the United cause, Basham confessed that Ahmedhodzic will prove difficult to shift if he continues to progress. Previously of Malmo and United’s marquee summer signing, the 23-year-old scored his first goal for United during last week’s win over Sunderland and also claimed an assist.
Basham played alongside Ahmedhodzic towards the end of Saturday’s win over Blackburn Rovers and said: “Anel has got everything in his locker. He is the future of this football club and maybe even I could play with him like I did the other day.”
