We don't forget the fallen of the Somme
In 2006 approximately 100 people went on an official visit from Sheffield to Serre to rededicate the Sheffield City Battalion war memorial at Serre inFrance, and to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of the Somme.
They included Bishop Jack who took the service at Serre and on part of the battlefield.

Hide AdDignitaries, who referred to themselves as the chain gang because of their chains of office, included the Lord and Lady Mayoress of Sheffield, the Mayors of Rotherham and Barnsley, past Lord Mayors of Sheffield and the Master Cutler.
They also went to Baupaume, which is twinned with Sheffield, and St George’s church, Ypres and the Menin Gate.
We had made donations to the cleaning and any repair work needed. Friends of the Somme went from Ireland.
We are going again this year and will be in Serre and Baupaume on July 1, also at the Menin Gate.
