An eyewitness said that there have already been three crashes at the junction this morning before neighbours covered the road with grit from nearby grit bins.
Black ice has already caused chaos on a number of roads in Sheffield with bus routes being heavily affected.
South Yorkshire Fire and Service issued a warning about sheet ice and treacherous road conditions earlier this morning and Stagecoach Supertram reiterated the message, warning passengers of black ice on roads, pavements and tram platforms.
