Triple-heart bypass survivor takes on half-marathon for charity
Bryan Shaw, of Richmond, Sheffield, suffered a massive heart attack only to discover that an unknown hereditary condition meant he needed life-saving surgery at the city’s Northern General Hospital.
The 53-year-old father and grandfather made a remarkable recovery and he has been training hard to target Sheffield’s great running challenge and raise money for the Sheffield Hospitals Charity.

“Doing the Sheffield half-marathon has always been a goal of mine and I couldn’t believe it when I was told that there was still no reason why I shouldn’t be able to do it after my surgery.
“That’s testament to all the medical staff who work so hard in this field.”
Bryan had already been in great shape as a keen runner when he was struck down by the heart attack in October, 2013, which had been an unknown, ticking timebomb.
