South Yorkshire road users urged to be more aware of horses
Posters with the slogan ‘Hit your brakes, not my horse’ are now appearing on the back of First Mainline buses in Sheffield.
There have been more than 140 road incidents in Yorkshire reported to The British Horse Society since it set up its horse accidents website in 2012.

Hide AdAmy Clements, British Horse Society’s Regional Manager for Yorkshire, said: “We are very excited to see the launch of this driver safety campaign in Yorkshire.
“Not all riders are able to access off-road riding, so riding on the roads is often the only option.
“We hope that drivers will take note of the adverts and pass horses with care.”
Riders are advised to take precautions if they ride out on the road, including wearing high visibility clothing and taking the BHS riding and road safety test.
Horse riders are encouraged to report any incidents to www.horseaccidents.org.uk to help the British Horse Society collate accurate figures on how common accidents are.
