Sheffield sizzles on hottest day of the year
With forecasters reporting highs of between 26 and 32 degrees Celsius in Sheffield today, it stole yesterday’s crown as the hottest day so far.
The scorching temperatures are thanks to a plume of hot air from Spain.

Hide AdAnd the mini-heatwave was certainly enjoyed by many Sheffield residents, who took to parks and open spaces to enjoy the sunshine.
University production assistant Chris Black, 30, of Nether Edge, said: “It’s absolutely glorious. I’m enjoying as much of it as I can on my lunch break before going back to the office.
“If my colleagues are lucky I might bring some ice creams back with me.”
Jennifer Ibbotson, 23, a creative co-ordinator living in Sharrow Vale, said: “It makes a nice change from the usual gloomy conditions but I’m struggling to look professional when I can feel a river of sweat on my back.”

Hide AdNew mum Fran Taylor, 34, who was out with her daughter, said: “It’s becoming unbearable now, but we’ve had a nice wander around elephant spotting and have just stopped for a bit of lunch and a cold drink. It’s lovely to see so many people have come out to enjoy it too.”
The Meteor Group said highs in the city reached 26 degrees yesterday. The Weston Park Weather Station, in Weston Park, recorded highs of 27 degrees. The Met Office said highs reached 32 degrees at 6pm – the hottest reported figure.
