Sheffield boss lost for words over no shows for job interviews
Bemused boss Nick Murphy claims that after advertising for salespeople last month, 12 people who were offered interviews didn’t show up – or even call to say they wouldn’t be coming.
Nick, managing director of HS Direct, a health and safety assessment company based near Meadowhall, said he has been left wondering if people really wanted work.

“But what’s really surprised me this time is that over half of the people who we offered an interview didn’t even bother showing up.
“What’s worse is that most of them didn’t even call to say they couldn’t make it, which is a complete waste of time for us too.
“We phoned all the people back who didn’t show up, but the majority didn’t answer the phone.

Nick said that he has another office in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, which has also been advertising roles.
He said: “We haven’t had anywhere near as many no-shows in Bury St Edmunds, which does make you wonder whether there’s more of a work ethic there.”
Nick said he is looking for five salespeople to man telephones in his Sheffield office.

He said: “It’s a good job and a proper career with a decent company.
“I honestly can’t see why people aren’t showing up. It’s a good opportunity.”
