Barnsley Council sold the block on Wombwell High Street as part of a budget savings plan in 2014 for £67,000, and permission was granted to turn it into a hot food takeaway.
The takeaway never materialised and now the council want to buy back it back as part of a scheme to spruce up the area.

Hide AdA public consultation offered the option on converting it into a retail unit, but the “overwhelming result” was to demolish it.
A report to the council’s ruling cabinet on March 10, lays out the authority’s plan to improve the High Street and attract more shoppers.
A long-term vision includes the demolition of the toilet block on the High Street, CCTV, demountable market stalls, and composite cladding for “unsightly concrete façades” above shops.
