Sheffield dad who shed half his body weight in six months to take on gruelling charity challenge

Dad of four Matthew Howe, aged 41, from Stocksbridge, decided to turn his life around after stepping on the scales in September last year to find out that he weighed 31st.
He manage to shed an amazing 12 st – an to mark the occasion he is taking on a virtual Lands End to John O’Groats challenge to raise funds for a charity which is close to his heart.

Hide AdMatt will be putting his new found fitness to good use walking the 1,083 mile challenge to raise funds for Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
He said: “I though to myself: I walk a lot and thought with a bit of a focus It would help me maintain the weight loss, so I signed up to the challenge.
“I chose Sheffield Children’s Hospital as a charity because I have four children and they have always been there for them and my little boy is autistic and the hospital have done a heck of a lot for us.
“It’s just my way of giving something back.”
Matt is nine days into the gruelling challenge after he installed the Conqueror app, which logs his steps and miles covered.

Hide AdHe’s walking around 10 miles a day on popular routes around Stocksbridge like Wharncliffe Woods, the reservoirs and the Pennine Trail.
He estimates it will take him about 15 weeks to complete the challenge, walking alongside his trusty trekking companion Boris the Cockapoo
Matt gave himself a £500 target which he has smashed already.
