Having spent his early childhood in Broomhall, he moved to Arbourthorne in his teens and would remain there for the rest of his life, becoming a popular character at the area’s pubs and social clubs, including Arundel Ex-Servicemen's Club & Institute on City Road, Park and Arbourthorne Club, and Manor Social Club.
“A lot of people say that when you walked into the pub you heard him before you saw him. He was a happy, bubbly bloke who loved tormenting people in the nicest possible way and would always bring you up when you were down,” said his son Peter.
"He was a great dad and the most loving man you could ever meet. He had a heart of gold and was always there for you if there was owt wrong.”
Peter Bartholomew’s funeral will take place at City Road Cemetery on March 25 at 12.15pm with a video link available for those unable to attend due to Covid restrictions.
