Past sexual descrimination
In 1948, after leaving grammar school, I started working at a well-known Sheffield scrap firm.
Even though I was attending evening classes for commerce, all students had to attend the “school” at the firm.

Hide AdAt the end of the course, I was pleased to come joint top in the examination with a male colleague.
Our prizes were exactly the same, book tokens, but he had his name put in gold letters on the oak panelling in the prestigious main corridor and I did not as I was a girl!
I complained bitterly but to no avail.
Imagine this happening today!
There were no means of taking it further in those days.
