No need for Epworth man to get in a jam
Semi-retired anaesthetist Charles Moore, of Station Road, has turned his hobby of marmalade making into an award winning pastime.
The 61-year-old has been making some mouth-watering creations for the last couple of years, and this year submitted entries into The World’s Original Marmalade Awards and Festival at Dalemain.

Charles told the Bells: “Over the last couple of years I have taken to making marmalade and this year I entered into various categories, submitting them all by post.
“You can meet all sorts of people at the event, including Paddington Bear with his marmalade sandwiches. You get the professionals and the amateurs who just like to make it as a hobby and are keen.
“This is the first year I have entered, as there was a good crop of oranges.

All of the marmalade made by Charles begins life as Seville oranges, which come into season in the new year. The fruit is squeezed and pithed, chopped, then boiled before sugar and pectin are added.
Charles added: “I tend to give what I make to friends.”
