Lord Mayor honours South Yemeni community at Sheffield Town Hall
Lord Mayor of Sheffield Denise Fox hosted the event, organised by the fifth year running by the city's Yafa Council and Yafa Charity Organisation, which work to break down barriers and support positive integration.
Awards were given out for accomplishments in politics, education, music and community work.

Hide AdAmong the achievements of note were that of Shakeil Nasser, who thanks to A grades at A-level secured a place at Cambridge University, and Abtisam Mohamed, the first Yemeni city councillor.
Saleh Alnoud, who helped organise the ceremony, said: "The South Yemeni community in Sheffield has over the years made a significant contribution to Sheffield with thousands of young men arriving from Aden to fill the labour shortage in the steel industry.
"Despite the challenges faced by the community following the decline in the steel industry, many in the community feel that a great deal of positive change has taken place and events such as these are important to recognise such positive change."
The event was support by the Al-Sharafi Group, made of of companies based in the United Arab Emirates. It has business activities in the UK which promotes educational achievement and excellence amongst the South Yemeni community worldwide.
