Liam takes to the turf
The recent visit to Twickenham was the culmination of Barnsley Aacademy’s involvement in the All School’s’ initiative, run by the Rugby Football Union and supported by commercial property and real estate services advisor, CBRE, to encourage more students into playing rugby.
As part of the initiative, the Worsbrough-based school receive a variety of brand new rugby equipment last summer for the students to use in curricular and enrichment time. This was followed up with the academy’s rugby squad members - Rohan Bradley and Aaron Totty - being asked to help design a kit for the school, incorporating ideas from the heritage of Barnsley with the academy colours of royal blue, black and white.

Hide AdLewis Hemingway, vice-captain of the Barnsley Academy’s Year 9 rugby squad, was chosen to unveil the new kit at the recent game, joining representatives from all of the other schools involved in the ‘All School’s’ scheme.
Principal, Stephen Dixon, said: “Thanks to the excellent support of the RFU and it’s ‘All Schools’ initiative, Rugby continues to grow in popularity here at the academy, with boys and girls taking part. Our Year 7 and 9 boys’ teams remain undefeated!”
