Football funeral cards popular for years
The first one appeared in late October, 1891 after United beat Wednesday 5-0 in a friendly and appears in the book Sheffield United the first 100 years by Denis Clarebrough published in 1989.
Written on a funeral card with a crucifix on top it reads, In loving remembrance of the Sheffield Wednesday Football Team who were safely put to rest on Monday, October 26, at Bramall Lane.

I have not seen any other cards but apparently they remained popular for a few years.
Up the Blades.
