More than 100 Sheffield campaigners meet in fight against climate crisis

The Sheffield Climate Emergency Summit was organised by the ‘Sheffield Climate Campaign Umbrella Group’, representing Sheffield Trades Union Council, Sheffield Youth Strike for Climate, Sheffield Climate Alliance, Campaign Against Climate Change and Extinction Rebellion Sheffield.
The opening statement, called ‘From Fires to floods – what’s behind the climate crisis’, was led by a representative of Sheffield Youth Strike 4 Climate, who spoke of the inaction of global leaders in dealing with what is now a climate crisis.

Hide AdThe summit then broke into three separate workshops where discussions were held around three topics: the global south, climate refugees and population; fighting the climate emergency - building the climate strike movement; and where now for the Green New Deal and the climate jobs campaign.
The ending statement of the day was called ‘Climate Rebellion – the fight for justice, jobs and COP26’.
A Sheffield Youth Strike for Climate spokesman said the day had been a great success.
He said: “The summit was a decisive day for the future of the climate movement in Sheffield.

“Overall the day was a really positive experience with loads of great debate and ideas. I know that everyone from youth strike for climate who attended is feeling more confident in continuing our action against the climate crisis.”
