Peter Sutcliffe, aged 74, who was arrested in Sheffield, began showing symptoms of Covid-19 last week.
He had just returned to HMP Frankland in County Durham after receiving hospital treatment for heart problems.
The serial killer is now in isolation behind bars.

Hide AdThe Sun reported that Sutcliffe is ‘gravely ill’ and refusing all treatment for the deadly virus.
Sutcliffe is serving a whole life sentence after being convicted of the murder of 13 women and attempted murder of seven others.
He was arrested in Broomhall on January 2, 1981 for driving a vehicle with false number plates.
A 24-year-old prostitute from the city was with him at the time.

Hide AdHis reign of terror lasted between 1975 and 1980 and he was initially sentenced to 20 life sentences and ordered to serve a minimum of 30 years.
He would have been freed in 2011 but was issued with a whole life order the year before.
