Woman left fighting for her life and in 'critical condition' after car crash

Police noticed a silver Seat Leon while they were driving along Summer Lane in Wombwell yesterday at 7.47pm.
Before officers had engaged with the vehicle, the driver of the Seat fled the area, driving over the mini roundabout that intersects Copeland Road and Main Street and crashing into a blue Hyundai i10.The driver of the Hyundai, a 62-year-old woman and her passenger, a 85-year-old woman were freed from the car and both taken to hospital.

Hide AdThe 62 year-old woman suffered minor injuries and the 85 year-old woman remains in a critical condition.Police located the driver of the Seat Leon close by and a 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving while over the prescribed limit for drugs, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision, theft of a motor vehicle and motoring offences.It is believed he had two passengers in the car at the time, and officers are keen to identify and speak to them in connection to the crash.
Police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time or has information about the men who fled to get in touch by calling 101, quoting incident number 867 of 20 August 2020.
