Sheffield man who uses cannabis to sleep is caught by police with the drug

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on January 2 how police followed a Seat on Herries Road, Sheffield, before they lost sight of the vehicle and later spotted Amir Saghir, 21, of Turie Avenue, Sheffield, walking away from it.
Rob Coyne, prosecuting, said police spotted the Seat travelling in the opposite direction and Saghir was later seen walking away from the vehicle on Musgrave Crescent.

Hide AdMr Coyne added police claimed there had been a strong smell of cannabis and they found a small amount of the class B drug in the defendant’s pocket.
Saghir pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis after the incident on October 26.
Balaal Khan, defending, said Saghir smokes cannabis to help him sleep but he is trying to beat the habit.
Magistrates sentenced Saghir to a 12 month conditional discharge. He must pay £85 costs and a £21 victim surcharge.
