Sheffield Crown Court heard on January 12 how Darrell Burbeary, aged 49, of Eastcroft Glen, Westfield, Sheffield, was found by the owner hiding behind a washing machine in a detached garage at Lodge Farm, Dinnington, Sheffield.
Daniel Penman, prosecuting, said: “He attended the garage and found the defendant hiding behind a washing machine. He grabbed and attempted to detain him but he was able to run away across fields.”

The garage owner stated he had been left annoyed because the garage roof had been damaged during the break-in and he was concerned because his home was nearby with children.
Burbeary, who has 52 previous convictions, pleaded guilty to the non-dwelling burglary which happened in November, 2020.
Andrew Smith, defending, said: “It was an opportunistic offence with no clear planning.”
