Police use stop and search powers in drugs crackdown in Sheffield city centre

Over five days of action, 22 people were stopped and searched by officers concentrating on anti-social behaviour hotspots known for drug taking and dealing.
A number of people were dealt with for drug possession and six were arrested for a range of offences, including a 34-year-old man found with £800 worth of Spice who was arrested on suspicion of being a dealer.

Hide AdInspector Ali Bywater said: “Over the last few days your city centre team have been putting their efforts into patrolling anti-social behaviour hotspots known for drug use, drug supply and other types of anti-social behaviour to keep you, our community safe.
“Results wise we have pro-actively stop searched 22 individuals leading to a small a number of people being processed for drugs possession.
“We have arrested six individuals for a range of offences - of particular note a 34-year-old male who thought it acceptable to have £800 of drugs in his possession with clear intent to supply these to others was searched and arrested, with his plans swiftly scuppered, and the drugs seized. This kind of behaviour and criminality will not be tolerated.
“The team will continue to have a presence in the city centre in the coming days and weeks as we start to unlock more restrictions and invite visitors back into town as the current lockdown begins to lift.”
