Police officer appears in court accused of assaulting teenage Sheffield Wednesday fan

PC William Sampson appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court yesterday accused of unlawful and malicious wounding over an alleged incident on Midland Street in Barnsley town centre in February.
He is accused of injuring a 16-year-old Sheffield Wednesday fan after the Owls played Barnsley FC at Oakwell and supporters were making their way home after the game.

Hide AdThe police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), was alerted to the incident and carried out an investigation, which concluded in August.
It referred a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, which made the decision to charge the police officer.
PC Sampson, 26, is to have his case heard at Leeds Crown Court.
He was granted unconditional bail and his next hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, December 30 at 9.30am.
