Mark Jones, aged 46, formerly of Cowper Crescent, at Birley Edge, Sheffield, had a dispute on Haymarket, in Sheffield city centre, with another man he knew and they came together in nearby King Street where the offence took place, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing.
Giles Bridge, prosecuting, told the hearing on June 16: “He had in his hand a nail clipper and file and used it to stab him in the neck.”

Jones, now of Lowedges, Sheffield, told police there had been a confrontation and claimed the other man had been the aggressor.
The defendant, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to wounding and possessing a bladed article in a public place after the incident on August 8, 2019.
Andrew Smith, defending, said there was no excuse for the defendant’s behaviour but he is willing to work through and overcome his problems.

Jones was sentenced to 13 months of custody suspended for two years with rehabilitation and drug rehabilitation requirements but he was warned any further offending or a breach of the suspended sentence could result in custody.
