Dangerous driver found with knife and drugs jailed after police chase in Sheffield

Liam Wilkinson, aged 34, of Southey Hall Road, Southey Green, was driving a Mitsubishi Outlander when he failed to stop for police officers he ‘cut’ up on a roundabout on Herries Road, Fir Vale.
A police pursuit was mounted through Southey, Parson Cross, Shiregreen and Firth Park, during which Wilkinson drove on the wrong side of the road and reached speeds of 80mph.

Hide AdWilkinson finally came to a stop at Rolleston Road, Sheffield Lane Top, and both he and his passenger fled but were later detained.
Wilkinson was initially arrested for driving offences but during a search of the car he had been driving, officers found a knife and tablets, believed to be drugs.
Checks then revealed that the car was stolen.
He was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a knife and possession of a Class C controlled drug.
During a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court last week, Wilkinson pleaded guilty to all charges, except theft of a motor vehicle.

Hide AdPC Simon Morfitt said: “Dangerous driving poses a risk to everyone involved, we often find that those who are willing to take risks on the road are also willing to take further risks associated with crime.”
He was jailed for eight months, banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to take a re-test.
