Boozed-up motorist was caught driving home to help partner

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on December 5 how Rafat Sanad Anwar Ali, 23, of Fir Vale Road, Sheffield, was caught by police on Division Street, Sheffield, on November 7.
Kirsty Pearson, prosecuting, said CCTV operators alerted police and Ali was stopped and failed a breath test and registered 46 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the limit is 35 microgrammes.

Hide AdAli pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit and to driving without insurance and without a licence.
Mary Rose Macadam, defending, said Ali had been out with friends and took a pal’s car with permission after he received a message from his partner who was concerned about their poorly child.
Magistrates fined Ali £120 and he must pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge. He was disqualified from driving for 14 months.
