I read in The Star (Oct 4) that Coun John Gilding, leader of Rotherham Council's Conservative group, has expressed disappointment with Jamie Oliver's TV programme The Ministry of Food. He also appears to have criticised Mr Oliver for making the people of Rotherham look stupid.
Well, as a neutral observer who does not wish to ingratiate himself with the folk of Rotherham, I totally disagree.
It seems to me that Mr Oliver is making a genuine, sympathetic and warm-hearted attempt to teach very basic cooking skills to people who have never been taught how to cook and who do not understand the benefits of avoiding excessive consumption of junk food.
I do not know what attempts to do the same have been made by Mr Gilding personally and it would be interesting to know.
I have to say however that I could do with a bit less of the foul language from Jamie.
