As part of a topic on World War Two, the Y6 pupils at Tranmoor Primary School in Armthorpe, Doncaster researched the Sheffield Blitz and created newspaper articles about the German Luftwaffe’s air raid attacks, said teacher Lisa Butler.
The school’s project marks the 80th anniversary of the terrible events of December 12 and 15 that destroyed huge areas of the city centre and suburbs on the first night and then targeted East End munitions factories three nights later.

The stories, beautifully written by hand, told readers of how the Blitz hit the city.
Many of the reports featured the terrible loss of life at the Marples Hotel in Fitzalan Square.
The reports included real-life accounts by the few survivors of the collapse of the building and fire in the pub cellars where people were trapped overnight in the rubble.
As well as the facts of what happen, many of the reports clearly convey the shock and devastation that the people of Sheffield felt afterwards.
