Covid-19: South Yorkshire surpasses 2,000 deaths as 23 more patients lose their lives to the virus

Three more people being treated for the deadly bug have passed away in Sheffield’s hospitals, according to the most recent data released today (December 31), bringing the total coronavirus-related fatalities in the city to 598.
A shocking 12 deaths was recorded in Doncaster, where the death toll stands at 566, and in Rotherham there have now been 425 deaths after three more were recorded.

Hide AdThe Barnsley death tally hit 421 after five additonal deaths.
It means that, since the pandemic hit, 2,010 South Yorkshire patients battling coronavirus lost their lives.
It comes after the Government’s decision yesterday (Wednesday, December 30) that South Yorkshire will remain at Tier 3, despite neighbouring counties being escalated to Tier 4.
Sheffield’s director of Public Health, Greg Fell, warned residents not to ‘let their guard down’ in spite of the decision and to keep following guidance.
