New figures reveal three in every 10 deaths in Sheffield this year linked to Covid

Out of 307 deaths registered during the first two weeks of 2021, up to Friday, January 15, Covid was mentioned on the death certificate 93 times, the latest data from the Office for National Statistics reveals.
There were 44 Covid deaths registered across the city during the week ending on January 8, which was 27 per cent of the 161 recorded, and 49 during the following week, which was 34 per cent of the 146 total.

Of the 93 Covid deaths registered in Sheffield so far this year, 77 were at hospitals, 15 were at care homes and one took place at home, the figures show.
The number of fatalities during that period may rise as more deaths are registered.
