Ireland's premier announces regional coronavirus lockdown in parts of the country

The Taoiseach has revealed that a local shutdown will be imposed in counties Kildare, Laois and Offaly after there was a surge in people contracting coronavirus.
Mr Martin said Covid-19 was still a “deep and urgent threat” as the number of positive cases appear to have increased.

Hide AdKildare, Laois and Offaly will be subjected to limited restrictions for two weeks, starting from midnight tonight (Saturday, August 8).
People living in the regions will be restricted from moving within the area, with the exception of work and other essential journeys.
Restaurants and pubs serving food are set to close, apart from takeaway and delivery services.
Indoor entertainment and sport venues such as cinemas, theatres and museums have also been ordered to shut.
