More people have tested positive in the city than anywhere else in England except London, Birmingham, Hampshire and Hertfordshire, the latter of which also has 833 confirmed cases.
The sharp spike in the latest figures from Public Health England (PHE), published yesterday, comes after the rise in confirmed cases had appeared to slow, increasing by only 15 to 730 on the Saturday.

Hide AdThe number of confirmed cases has been criticised by several experts as an unreliable and misleading figure, as the true number of people with coronavirus is expected to be much higher and these statistics are skewed by how much testing is carried out in different areas.
There are now 47 patients who have died in Sheffield after testing positive for coronavirus, out of a total of 4,494 in England, following a rise of 13 yesterday.
