THE owner of a dog which attacked an eight-year-old boy today defended the animal and claimed it was provoked.
Yenaba Kamara, of Goathland Drive, Woodhouse, said Connor Thomas, a friend of her daughter's, hit her puppy with a stick and kicked it before it turned on him.

Connor, also of Goathland Drive, was bitten on the back, stomach, arm and leg by the St
affordshire Bull Terrier Cross.

Today, Mrs Kamara, a grandmother, said: "He came to the house and was waiting for my daughter to come out and play. I told him not to come inside the gate. For some reason, the dog doesn't like Connor.

"I looked away for two minutes and he must have come inside the gate. Then I heard him screaming. My friend was watching from upstairs and said she saw Connor hitting and kicking the dog.

"I feel dreadful about the situation. I still feel bad because, at the end of the day, he's a little boy."

She pointed out that the dog was only a four-month-old puppy. But Connor's mum Maria has called for the dog to be put down.

Police said no action could be taken because the attack took place on private property - thereby exempt from the Dangerous Dogs Act, under which owners can be prosecuted.

Stupid child shouldn`t have hit the dog,he would retaliate in the same way if he was attacked, the dog was protecting itself thats all.

I think Benji's right, the kid deserved everything he got for provoking the poor animal.Do people think it's ok to torment animals or something?? do they think that if they torment an Animal they expect it not to retaliate?? what planet are you all from??

the boy seems a bit thick after seeing him on tv..so perhaps he hadnt got the sense not to tease an torment a dog....the dog did what most animals would do if provoked ...retaliate...so yep benj im with you on this one..would the dog have gone for him if not provoked..doubt it ?

What a bunch of thickos you all are.
Lets hope the dog does not attack the girl if she should accidentally stand on its paw.If a dog attacks a human being whether provoked or not should be put down immediately.

no 6 who dragged you up ? people are entitled to have different opinions and views..just because they arent yours doesnt mean you have to show lack of manners and call people names does it... im sure the ones who believe the dog wasnt to blame are not ignorant enough to call you names and respect the fact that you hold a different opinion, please get over yourself

The boy in question lives in a house with dogs of their own so I would like to think he knows better than to punch/kick a dog.
There are several of the "puppy's" litter mates in the area, and they are rumoured to be Staffy x Pit Bull. They certainly appear so. The puppy is the size of a fully grown Staffy already so we aren't talking tiny Yorkie here!
How can anyone blame an 8 yr old for getting savaged by a vicious dog?

When I was young I had a dog that bit me on a regular basis, no body called for its destruction. I teased it it bit me, I deserved its retaliatation. Dogs cannot tell their version of the story, we should respect this. What did this child do to the puppy ?

Why do people have these dogs? They are bred for fighting. And thats just what happened. These dogs are too unpredictable, even if the owner thinks they wouldnt attack. Its in their blood. No one should blame a kid if they get attacked, no matter what.
