Sheffield schoolgirl set for national role with the Sea Cadets

Marine Cadet Naomi Thornton, from Meersbrook, has been named as the First Sea Lords Cadet, for Eastern Area Sea Cadets 2021.
The 16-year-old was give the awarded because of her hard work and dedication ti duty with the Sheffield Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets.

Hide AdThe Notre Dame High School pupil has been a member of the cadets for six years and holds the rank of Cadet Corporal.
This a highly converted title is given to only six of the best cadets in the country each year.
Her new duties will include meeting with the head of the Royal Navy ‘First Sea Lord’ and the Navy Board, consisting of other high ranking Royal Navy Officers including the Royal Navy’s senior management board and representing her region.
She will take part on one of the meetings to youth issues with Navy Command.

Hide AdNaomi, who is currently studying for her A-levels, said: ”I’m excited really but unsure because of Covid.
She has also travelled to the USA on an exchange programme, representing The Marine Cadets and meeting senior officers in the US Navy.

Hide AdNaomi’s mother, Sarah said: “I’m really proud of her, and really excited for the opportunities she’s got ahead. We’re very proud of her.”
She added that she would be happy for her daughter to follow a career in the Armed Forces, if that is what she wanted.
Although Naomi sounds like a ideal candidate for the Armed Forces, she is keeping her options open.
“I’m not really sure. I’m aware the opportunity is there,” she said.
“But I’m still unsure of what to do after university.“

“I’m with a local club. We do a lot local, but we get the opportunity to go all over,” she said.
Naomi officially takes over her role in January 2021.
