Sheffield and Derbyshire dates for Russian production of opera classic Aida
The production company promises “sumptuous sets, splendid new costumes and breathtaking melodies”, sung in Italian with English surtitles.
Giuseppe Verdi’s gripping love story is set in ancient Egypt. Ethiopian princess Aida, falls in love with Egyptian General Radames, then finds she has to choose between love and duty when their countries go to war.

Hide AdIconic music includes the sumptuous first act aria ‘Se quel Guerrier io fossi!’ and the powerful, victorious Triumphal March that features in the second act.
Tour marketing manager Julia Ignatowa said: “A deeply moving opera overflowing with emotion, from moments of despair and uncertainty to rapturous romance and joy, Aida is an unforgettable, inspiring spectacle that must be experienced in person.”
The orchestra alone features more than 30 musicians.
The show is coming to the Pomegranate, Theatre, Chesterfield on February 24, Sheffield City Hall on March 11 and Buxton Opera House on April 5.
